Molly & I wanted to start a blog together. We will be posting wedding information here--and after updates about us.

To start this blog, our blog, I can think of no better way that to start with a post about love

What is love? (Baby don't hurt me...don't hurt me)

There is not one simple definition of love. As I see it, there are two ways to define love well. The first being with the assistance of the four Greek forms of love:

eros-passionate love and sexual desire

philia-friendship/ brotherly love, loyalty; is dispassionate.

sturge-natural affection, like that among family

agape-unconditional love, "true love", like the love of God for us.

The second definition of love comes from Robert Sternberg's "Triangular theory of love", which is based upon three components:

intimacy-

passion-

commitment-

Whether love be thought of as the Greek quartet of loves (eros, philia, agape, storge) or Sternberg's three components (passion, intimacy, commitment), it does not matter, for they really are describing the same attributes of love.

We believe that love comes from God--that to know God is to love God; for God is love (1 John 4:8).

1 John 3:1- Behold, what banner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

1 John 4:6-8 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth and of error.

Beloved, let us love one another for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
